Basic Cake Recipe
A basic recipe for a cake ready to be designed from the imagination of one's sight and taste!
This pattern can be adjusted to a size that tickles your fancy.
*Foam is used to maintain the shape of the cake.
Cake
Do not join rounds.
Form an adjustable ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 5 sc in ring - 5 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around - 10 sc.
Rnd 3: 2 sc in each st around - 20 sc.
Rnd 4: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 30 sc.
Rnd 5: Sc around - 30 sc.
Rnd 6: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 40 sc.
Rnd 7: Sc around - 40 sc.
Rnd 8: [Sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 50 sc.
Rnd 9: Sc around - 50 sc.
Rnd 10: [Sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 60 sc.
Rnd 11: Sc around - 60 sc.
Rnd 12: [Sc in each of next 5 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 70 sc.
Rnd 13: Sc around - 70 sc.
Rnd 14: [Sc in each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 80 sc.
Rnd 15: Sc around - 80 sc.
Rnd 16: [Sc in each of next 7 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 90 sc.
Rnd 17: Sc around - 90 sc.
Rnd 18: [Sc in each of next 8 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 100 sc.
Rnd 19: Sc around - 100 sc.
Rnd 20: [Sc in each of next 9 sts, 2 sc in next] 10 times - 110 sc.
Rnd 21: Sc around, sl st - 110 sc.
Rnd 22: Working in bk lps, sc around - 110 sc.
Rnds 23-40: Sc around, sl st at end of rnd 40 - 110 sc.
Bottom
Follow rounds 1-21 of cake. Do not fasten off. Trace around bottom on 4" thick foam. Cut out foam. Cover 4" thick foam with top part of cake. With ws facing out, sc bottom to bk lps of last rnd of cake. Fasten off.
Puffy Frosting
#1 works in multiples of 3.
With top of cake facing you, sc to any free loop and ch 2. *Working in next st, [YO twice, insert hook in st, pull up a loop, (yo and pull through 2 lps) twice] 4 times, YO and pull through all 5 lps. Sl st in next lp, sc in next, ch 2.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st in first frosting st. Fasten off leaving a 48" tail. With tail, weave in the outer part of the puffy frosting to cake.
#2 works in multiples of 2 where a puffy frosting occurs in every other stitch, creating a 'tighter' look.
With top of cake facing you, sl st to any free loop and ch 3. *Working in next st, [YO twice, insert hook in st, pull up a loop, (yo and pull through 2 lps) twice] 4 times, YO and pull through all 5 lps. Sl st in next lp, ch 3.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st in first frosting st. Fasten off leaving a 48" tail. With tail, weave in the outer part of the puffy frosting to cake.
